Merit Scholarships

Merit Scholarships are awarded to incoming and rising Ninth Grade students during each of her four years in the Upper School at Holy Child. A limited number of scholarships are given yearly. Applicants are considered based on their standardized test results, grades, recommendations, interview and a written essay. Merit Scholar recipients are students who demonstrate strong character, intellectual curiosity and a commitment to community.

While these scholarships are a special recognition for a few students, it does not change or replace the regular admission and financial aid process. Families may apply for financial assistance in addition to these scholarships. Demonstrated need is not a required criteria for a Merit Scholarship.

The Cornelia Connelly Scholarship is awarded to qualified candidates with outstanding academic potential who demonstrate wisdom, confidence and friendship throughout the application process.
The Margarita Moncada de Ibarra Scholarship is granted from the Ministry Fund of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus and is awarded to stellar students from various underrepresented ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
The Annalea Ricci Scholarship was created to honor a beloved educator who spent 19 years teaching in Holy Child's Science Department. This scholarship is awarded to students with strong backgrounds and continued interest in science.
The Hyacinthe Family Scholarship is awarded to students of African-American and Caribbean descent who demonstrate academic talent, diligence, and upstanding character.

How to Apply for a Merit Scholarship

Applicants to Holy Child

  • Complete admission application and Merit Scholarship registration form by November 7
  • Sit for the Merit Scholarship essay exam at Holy Child on Saturday, November 12
  • Complete the student shadow visit, student interview and parent interview by December 2
  • Submit all supporting materials required for admission by December 9
  • Students will be notified of Merit Scholarship awards at the same time they receive notice of admission.

Current Holy Child Students

  • Complete the Merit Scholarship registration form by November 7
  • Sit for the Merit Scholarship essay exam at Holy Child on Saturday, November 12
  • Submit Trimester 1 report card
  • Students will be notified of Merit Scholarship awards in January.
