Summer Programs
School of the Holy Child offers area students a number of options during the summer for arts immersions and sports camps. For Middle School students who need additional support in math and technology, the School also offers two interactive math programs.
Italian Cultural Studies
For three and a half weeks during the summer, Holy Child students travel to the center of Florence, Italy, to attend intensive language and art courses, as well as enjoy weekend field trips to the surrounding cities of Siena and San Gimigniano, and over night trips to Venice and the Mediterranean Sea.
The Summer Arts Program in Florence, Italy, is open to all students who will have completed their sophomore year. Students do not need to have experience in fine arts or the Italian language to apply.
Holy Child affiliate institutions in Florence are:
- Fuji Studio: Fuji Studio was founded in 1985 in Florence, Italy and is affiliated with several American Universities. The studios are located in the center of Florence in a convent built during the Italian Renaissance.
- Scuola Dante Alighieri: The Italian language course will be taught at Scuola Dante Alighieri- One of the oldest language schools in Florence, also located in the center of town. June Arts Immersion
School of the Holy Child's June Arts Immersion offers a series of co-educational two-week workshops that allows students to take an in-depth fine or performing arts workshop with a teaching artist in a studio environment. An in-depth approach of this magnitude is generally not available during a traditional academic year, due to the demands of academic classes and after-school commitments. The day classes will allow students to explore material and ideas, take field trips, and create a body of work in a focused environment. One trimester of Fine Arts credit will be available to Holy Child students. Courses offered include:
The Arts Immersion Program is open to all students in grades 8 through 12.
Summer Sports Camps
Holy Child offers evening athletic summer camps for girls that are designed to help them develop in a game-like setting. A portion of each day is also dedicated to individual skill development, as well as scrimmage situations.
Girls in Middle School can choose from basketball, field hockey, lacrosse and soccer; Upper School camps are available for volleyball, soccer and field hockey. The School also offers Upper School girls specialized camps with additional conditioning for field hockey, lacrosse, basketball, cross country and volleyball. Also for Upper School girls, Holy Child partners with the LIFT Corporation to run conditioning camps that focus specifically on strength, endurance, speed, agility and quickness.
Math Magic and Math Marvel
School of the Holy Child offers the following summer confidence-building mathematics courses for Middle School students:
Math Magic: For 5th and 6th Grade Students
Math Magic is a hands-on, multi-sensory, interactive workshop designed to bolster and reinforce basic math skills and improve problem-solving strategies. The program is intended to strengthen skills and foster confidence for the upcoming school year; it is not intended for those seeking enrichment.
Math Marvel: For 7th Grade Students
Math Marvel is a hands-on interactive workshop designed to teach and reinforce key math skills and concepts and broaden problem solving abilities. Internet programs will be utilized on laptops to reinforce and practice these skills.
