Student Life
At School of the Holy Child, administration, faculty and staff encourage students to enrich their lives with the activities that most inspire and excite them. In addition to challenging academic courses, students can participate in various athletics, fine and performing arts, arts immersions, and day and overnight trips and retreats. Student-run committees organize dances, movie nights, pep rallies, and cultural outings, many of which are open to other local schools. Clubs and activities, which often meet during the school day, are required and most students participate in more than one. Offerings include student publications, Mock Trial and Model UN, CAMBIAS, a cultural diversity awareness organization, and Campus Ministry. Community service is also an integral component of life at Holy Child; though Upper School students must complete 25 hours each year, most students exceed this requirement, and fully integrate community service into their lives. Middle School students engage in a number of community service projects, including the Annual Sprint Sprint for Charity, which raises money for local and national organizations chosen by the Middle School.
As part of its mission to educate young women of "conscience and action" who are responsible global citizens, Holy Child offers its students many opportunities each year to travel: cultural immersions throughout Europe and Africa and service trips to Nicaragua and Alabama. Holy Child also takes part in the Student Year Abroad program, sending students for year-long study in France, Spain and China.
The school year also has its many traditions: Homecoming and Alumnae Reunion, St. Teresa's Day, Spirit Week, and Ring Day. Middle School students look forward to their Eighth Grade Moving Up and our Upper School seniors still wear white dresses and hold red roses at Commencement, like the 94 graduating classes before them.
