Technology
Investigating. Hypothesizing. Organizing. Synthesizing.
In 2009, School of the Holy Child will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its laptop learning program. In 1999, the intent of the program was clear: to make laptops an intergral component of the academic life of the school. Since then, the program has expanded to include a variety of technologies and media, from software programs to video/audio capabilities and online communications tools. However, despite rapid changes in technological capabilities, the goals of the technology program at Holy Child have stayed the same:
- To ensure competence in both simple and complex computer skills
- To foster teaching and learning based upon problem-solving and analytical thinking
- To encourage students to take control of their own learing through the use of technology
- To enable students to access information, explore topics in greater depth, and organize and present information in a compelling and professional manner
- To prepare students for both college and professional life by facilitating the aquistion of necessary skills
- To emphasize the ethical and safe use of technology
As part of Holy Child's technology program, students in grades 7 through 12 enjoy a mandatory laptop program in which computers are used for a wide variety of tasks from research, to notes and simulations. Students learn to use and apply technology through the context of the curriculum.
