Welcome to the Upper School
Dear Friends,
At the core of School of the Holy Child's Upper School program is our distinct understanding that every student is an individual with unique talents and interests. In our small, student-centered classes, our expert teachers engage each student through a challenging academic program that encourages, above all else, Joy in Learning.
As the girls progress through the Upper School, their intellectual, spiritual and social growth is fostered through an exposure to a diverse curriculum, expansive offerings in both the visual and performing arts, a highly successful athletic program, and a thriving Student Government and Campus Ministry. In our classrooms, the teachers vary their assessments, enabling our students to demonstrate their understanding of course material in multiple ways, and we encourage exploration beyond the classroom walls. Our students study in Europe, Asia and recently visited one of our sister schools in Ghana. As emerging media and technology continue to shrink the scope of the world, the Upper School strives to prepare our students for the 21st century by focusing on communication and community--two essential aspects at the basis of our curriculum and at the basis of societal growth. It is essential to us that each of our students find her own "voice" and be able to confidently give a true accounting of who they are and what they know. Writing is stressed across the Upper School curriculum, and our one-to-one laptop program keeps the girls current with the latest technological advancements.
Ultimately, however, it is through the close relationships formed between peers and teachers that our students achieve at such high levels. While it's clear that the students are working incredibly hard, they do so with a great appreciation for the opportunities before them. We understand our responsibilities to our immediate community and to the greater community at-large, and we recognize the potential in each of us to enact positive change in our society. Grounded in the Catholic tradition of education, our emphasis on faith and practice enhances and deepens the character of our students, and readies them for whatever challenges they may encounter. School of the Holy Child graduates are thoroughly prepared to enter the exceptional colleges and universities to which they have earned admission, and they do so as dynamic leaders in their classes and among their friends.
