
Meet our Young Alumnae
Julia Lane ’21
Julia just finished her second year at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where she studies Production Design and Themed Entertainment Design. This year, she stepped into the role of resident assistant in first-year housing, helping new students adapt to college life through planning unique programs, providing resources, and offering a helping hand. She loves the community she found on her staff and will be in the same role next year.
Julia has worked on a handful of student film sets as a production designer and is also a member of the Themed Entertainment Association @ SCAD, where she attends weekly meetings to keep up to date on what’s happening in the industry. Her favorite classes from this year include Set Design, 20th-Century Art, and Anthropology. Julia will study abroad this summer at SCAD’s Lacoste campus in Lacoste, France.
Alex LaMassa ’20
Alex is a double major in Theatre Studies and Telecommunications & Media Industries at Penn State University. She is also pursuing a Journalism minor. Alex spent this spring semester studying abroad at Theatre Academy London. At Penn State, she is an Assistant Director for main stage productions for the Penn State School of Theatre, one of the top performing arts schools in the country. She is also the Social Media Director for HER Campus at PSU, a magazine for college women by college women. This summer, she also started a new position as a Social Media Intern for CNN Underscored at Warner Bros. Discovery!
Ellen Ferranto ’20
Ellen studies physics and math at Harvey Mudd College. She has a summer internship at the University of California, Santa Barbara, (UCSB) doing materials science research. Ellen is co-president of her dorm, and she loves the community, which has been a huge bonus for her in her college experience. Ellen says, “My favorite classes have been General Relativity, Abstract Algebra, and Intermediate Quantum Mechanics.”
Tiffany Jones ’20
Tiffany just completed her junior year at Bucknell University, and she spent some time reflecting on the last three years. She is studying Chemical Engineering, which means she is taking a challenging load of courses. Tiffany has also been actively involved in many clubs and extracurriculars in her community. For the past couple of years, she has been an Admissions Ambassador, a Garman Guide mentor for first-year engineers in the College of Engineering, and a mentor in the Multicultural Student Services. Additionally, Tiffany started a nail business on campus, and she plays on the Women’s Club Volleyball team. As if that weren’t enough to keep her busy, Tiffany also serves as an Orientation Leader and is the President of the Bucknell NSBE Chapter (National Society of Black Engineers). Tiffany will work as an R&D (Research and Development) Intern at PepsiCo Beverages North America this summer as part of the PepsiCo Kickstart Leadership Program. She says, “I can’t wait to see what next year has in store!”
Keira Carvin ’21
Keira completed her first year at Mount Holyoke College. Her major is undecided, but she took courses this year in biology, sociology, and Spanish. Keira was in a play in March called Exit Strategy, written by Ike Holter. The play is based on true events about a public high school in Chicago that's being closed down; it follows a group of teachers and a student who try to rally together to save it. Keira also joined the club rugby team, and she participated in a collective affinity group for multiracial students on campus.
Lexie Grigg ’21
Lexie just finished her sophomore year at Skidmore College, where she is a double major in Music and Social Work, and she is involved in the music scene at Skidmore. In addition to playing music herself, Lexie runs a club called Lively Lucy’s that brings outside live music acts to campus every week! Lexie also just finished her first fieldwork placement for the social work major, where she spent the semester working in a safe and affordable housing center for women and their children. This summer, she will be transitioning into her role as a social worker at a local elementary school.
Sara Shultis ’20
Sara is studying Economics and Finance at Boston College and loving it! She is currently involved in a club on campus called Women in Business (WIB), and she will be the Co-President next year. This spring, the group hosted its annual WIB Gala at the Boston College Club in the Financial District in Boston and had the pleasure of inviting 100 top members and recruiters to the event. The WIB Gala is a big night of networking and included a keynote speaker and a sit-down dinner where undergraduate women can explore career options and talk about the past year.
Emma O’Shea ’19
Emma just graduated from Bucknell University. In her senior year, she worked on a prosthetic leg for a staff member's dog. She is excited to start working as a New Product Development Engineer at a medical device company that focuses on surgical orthopedics, KLS Martin, in Jacksonville, FL.
Symone Ryans ’19
Symone just graduated from Bucknell University with a major in Sociology and a double minor in Digital Humanities and Critical Black Studies. She has played four years of Women’s Lacrosse at Bucknell in the position of goalie. Her final season included a four-game winning streak, including a win over a team that made it to the NCAA tournament last year. Symone said, “I am grateful for the past 4 years being a part of the women’s lacrosse team and the friendships I gained, and the memories I made!”
Outside of lacrosse, Symone has been a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority, she was on the Executive Board of Bison Athletes of Color, and she was also the leader of a breakout group within Bucknell’s Gender & Sexuality Alliance called Queer Athletes.
Following graduation, Symone has taken a job as an analyst in sales and trading at J.P. Morgan in New York City, where she will be moving this summer.
