A Thoughtful Beginning to the Upper School Journey

At School of the Holy Child, freshman year is intentionally designed as a true beginning for every student. Whether a girl is joining us for the first time or continuing from our Middle School, every ninth grader is welcomed as if she is brand new to Holy Child.

This intentional reset helps bring the class together as one community, creating a shared experience rooted in belonging, confidence, and connection from the very start.

Freshman year is where girls build relationships, find their footing, and begin to grow into the leaders they will become.

Orientation Begins Before the First Day. Connection begins before classes start.

In August, before the school year officially begins, all incoming ninth graders participate in a carefully planned orientation experience designed to build confidence and relationships.

The experience begins on campus, where students are welcomed by their faculty advisor and advisory group. Advisors lead campus tours and help students become familiar with the spaces, routines, and people who will shape their daily experience.

	Each advisory group includes 8-10 students and one faculty advisor, creating an immediate sense of belonging and support. Students begin meeting the peers and adults who will be important parts of their high school journey before the first day of classes.

Off-Campus Team Building Experience. Following the on-campus orientation, all freshmen participate in an off-campus orientation experience. This day focuses on team building, collaboration, and relationship development through engaging activities and shared challenges. Students work together, step outside their comfort zones, and begin building trust with their classmates.

These experiences are intentionally designed to help girls feel connected, supported, and confident before school officially begins.
