A Bold Beginning. The first year matters.
The Fifth Grade Experience

At Holy Child, fifth grade is more than the start of middle school.

It is the beginning of a transformative educational journey designed specifically for girls at a pivotal moment in their growth.

As the first year we offer, fifth grade at Holy Child is intentionally designed to build confidence, curiosity, and the academic foundations that prepare girls to thrive in the years ahead. Our program blends strong academics with leadership development, executive functioning skills, and joyful discovery, giving students the tools they need to find their voice and grow into capable, compassionate leaders.

Why Start in Fifth Grade?

Beginning at Holy Child in fifth grade gives students the opportunity to establish strong habits, build meaningful relationships, and grow within a supportive all-girls environment from the very start.

At this age, girls are developing independence, confidence, and a deeper sense of self. Our program is designed to meet them in that moment with the right balance of structure, challenge, and encouragement.

Our Program

A Program Designed for Growth

Our fifth-grade program is thoughtfully designed to nurture the whole child, academically, socially, and emotionally.

Leadership Development. Every fifth grader begins her journey as a leader.

Through dedicated programming focused on leadership, social-emotional growth, and service, students learn how to communicate with confidence, collaborate with empathy, and lead with purpose. Girls begin to recognize their strengths and discover how their voices can make a difference in their community and the world.

Students develop strong foundations in:
  • Reading and writing
  • Analytical thinking
  • Mathematics
  • Organization and study habits
  • Executive Functioning
  • Time management and responsibility

These skills are intentionally taught and reinforced so every student learns not only what to learn, but how to learn.

Fifth grade is a year of essential skill-building.

Public Speaking & Presentation Skills.

A signature element of the fifth-grade experience is the intentional development of public speaking and presentation skills. Students regularly practice speaking in front of peers, sharing ideas clearly, and presenting projects with poise.

Confidence begins with voice.

By the end of the year, every student is prepared to stand confidently before an audience and communicate her thinking with clarity and purpose.

A Thoughtfully Designed Schedule. Our modified block schedule allows students the time and space to think deeply, make connections, and engage fully in their learning.

Humanities Block

Language Arts and Social Studies come together in an interdisciplinary Humanities block, where students explore literature, history, culture, and current events through discussion, writing, and project-based learning.

This integrated approach helps girls make meaningful connections across subjects while strengthening critical reading, writing, and communication skills.

STEM Block

Our STEM block brings together science, technology, and engineering in a hands-on, collaborative setting.

Students build foundational skills in:

  • robotics
  • coding
  • engineering design
  • problem-solving
  • scientific inquiry

With dedicated time for experimentation and innovation, girls learn to think like creators, builders, and future innovators.

A Well-Rounded Education.

In addition to Humanities and STEM, fifth graders take dedicated courses in:

  • Math
  • Religion
  • Visual and Performing Arts
  • Music and Dance
  • Physical Education

These experiences ensure that every student’s intellectual, creative, spiritual, and physical development is nurtured.

The Holy Child Difference. Fifth grade at Holy Child is intentionally small, deeply personal, and thoughtfully designed.

Girls are known, challenged, and supported from the very first day. They are encouraged to take risks, ask questions, and grow into confident learners and leaders.

This is where confidence begins. This is where leadership starts.
