Compassion in Practice. At School of the Holy Child, faith and service are central to who we are.
As a member of the Holy Child Network of Schools, we are guided by the Goals & Criteria, the shared principles that shape our teaching, our community, and our commitment to educating young women of conscience and action. Rooted in the educational vision of Cornelia Connelly, we believe that education is not only about academic growth, but also about spiritual formation, compassion, and responsibility to others.
Our students are encouraged to reflect deeply, lead with empathy, and put their values into action through a vibrant spiritual life, meaningful service-learning experiences, and sustained community engagement.

We believe that every student should feel supported in her own spiritual journey and invited to explore life’s big questions in a thoughtful, inclusive environment.
Our hope is that each girl grows in her relationship with God, with herself, and with the world around her.
Through coursework in religion and world religions, prayer, reflection, and service, students deepen their own beliefs while developing shared values of:
- Empathy
- Compassion
- Respect for others
- Moral courage
- Commitment to social justice

Religious & Spiritual Life
As a Catholic school community, we strive to nurture each member’s spiritual life, personal relationship with God, and connection to creation.
We come together regularly for liturgies, Masses, and prayer services, where all members of the community are welcome to participate and share their gifts, regardless of personal religious tradition.

Through retreats at every grade level, students step away from their routines to reconnect with themselves, one another, and God. These experiences include:
- Prayer and reflection
- Relationship building
- Time in nature
- Guided conversation
- Quiet personal reflection
Retreats help students grow in self-awareness, deepen friendships, and reflect on the values that guide their lives.
Service Learning
From Awareness to Action
Our faith calls us to move beyond ourselves and reach out to those in need, both within and beyond our community.

| Beginning in Middle School, students begin learning how they can make a difference in the world. They explore the needs of the community around them, research how to respond, and take meaningful action in service to others. |
Service-learning and community service at Holy Child is not simply volunteer work. It is an intentional educational experience that helps students connect reflection, learning, and action.
Students are encouraged to:
- Identify real community needs
- Investigate causes and systems
- Consider ethical questions
- Take thoughtful action
- Reflect on impact and responsibility
In the Upper School, students are required to complete 25 hours of community service each year with local nonprofit organizations. These experiences help students build relationships with their communities and develop a lifelong commitment to service.
